Erasmus MC
Where XR meets care
Entering the age of extended reality
Erasmus MC has opened its doors to a new kind of surgical environment – one where digital and physical realities work as one. Together, we launched the Thorax XR Center with a cinematic vision that positions Erasmus MC at the forefront of medical innovation, while keeping the human story of patients, surgeons and future specialists at its heart.
Challenge
Erasmus MC is a world leader in cardiothoracic surgery and research. But as they established their new Thorax XR Center, the team needed a powerful way to communicate its purpose – not only to peers and patients, but to future collaborators, investors, and technology partners. The task: to translate the complexity of XR into a persuasive story that’s both scientifically credible and immediately inspiring.
Sensu's approach
We developed a two-minute launch film that defines the identity and vision of the Thorax XR Center. Combining authentic surgical footage with integrated 3D visualisations, the film demonstrates how extended reality enhances patient preparation, surgical planning, precision, and education. Designed to be both cinematic and strategic, it presents a center built for the future of care – and a partner ready to lead it.
This project involved the following service pillars:
Strategy
Content
Branding
Designing a visual language
The film presents the Thorax XR Center as a living ecosystem for innovation. Real-world procedures are shown alongside holographic projections and AI-driven planning tools, illustrating how virtual insight becomes surgical advantage. The visuals are bold, structured, and forward-looking – reflecting a mindset of precision and technological leadership.
Built to inspire and attract
Beyond its immediate launch purpose, the film serves as a strategic communication asset for Erasmus MC’s innovation and education teams. It positions the Thorax XR Center as a destination for collaboration – where medical expertise meets advanced technology, and where global partners can see the future of surgery taking shape.
“It was a pleasure to see more than a thousand people experience the film’s premiere in Copenhagen. We’re thrilled with the result and deeply appreciate Sensu’s creative partnership.“
Jolanda Kluin | Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery
A human surgical journey
The story connects multiple perspectives across the care pathway: the patient entering an unfamiliar operating room, the surgeon preparing and operating with greater insight, and the next generation of specialists learning through immersive tools. By bringing these viewpoints together, the film shows XR not as technology for technology’s sake, but as a bridge between precision, education and patient-centered care.
Outcome
The Thorax XR Center film established a clear, confident identity for one of Europe’s most forward-thinking hospital departments. By turning complex technology into a tangible, cinematic narrative, Sensu helped Erasmus MC reinforce its reputation as a leader in translational medicine – while generating early digital traction with 400+ likes, 20+ comments and 20+ reposts. The result: visibility, conversation and momentum around the future of surgical care.
