An original series on immunity
How to explain something as complex, layered, and invisible as the immune system – without reducing its wonder? With Human Blueprint, we created our first original animated series: four 3D-animated shorts that take viewers on a journey through the body’s multi-layered defences. Each episode explores a different part of the immune response, brought to life by a different Sensu animator, in a distinct visual style.
A world worth entering
Medical education often asks audiences to understand systems they cannot see. The immune system is a perfect example: layered, dynamic, and full of specialised responses unfolding far beneath the surface. In Human Blueprint, we set out to turn that invisible complexity into something audiences can enter – making immunology feel clearer, more memorable, and more compelling to explore.
Where craft meets curiosity
Developed as a Sensu Labs project, Human Blueprint brings together scientific curiosity, visual ambition, and in-house production expertise. From research and concepting to scriptwriting, voiceover, animation, and interactive development, every part of the series was shaped by our team. Four Sensu animators each created one episode, giving every chapter its own visual language while keeping the full series connected by a shared educational purpose.

First line of defence
The opening episode introduces the body’s first protective barriers: skin, mucous membranes, and stomach acid. Rendered in striking black and white, it strips the immune system back to its architectural essentials – surfaces, borders, thresholds, and shields working constantly to keep harmful invaders out.
Second line of defence
The second episode enters the innate immune response, where phagocytes confront pathogens that slip past the body’s first responders. With a space-themed visual style, the body becomes a self-contained universe: bacteria as alien intruders, immune cells as planetary defence, and inflammation as the signal that sets a wider response in motion.
B cells
The third episode dives into the adaptive immune response, focusing on B cells and their role in recognising antigens, producing antibodies, and forming memory cells. Inspired by comic books and anime, the episode uses vivid colour, energy, and scale to turn a highly specific cellular process into a fast-paced scientific story.
T cells
The final episode highlights the supporting but essential role of T cells within the adaptive immune response. Through a slower, more organic visual language shaped by physics-based movement, it presents cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, and regulatory T cells as part of one coordinated system.
A preview of future medical education
Human Blueprint points towards a larger opportunity: medical education that is not only explained, but experienced. Animation can make invisible systems visible, while interaction helps people explore those systems at their own pace. Together, they open up new ways to make complex science more accessible, engaging, and memorable.
Where learning becomes active
Using the B cell episode as a foundation, we created an interactive experience in Ella that turns the adaptive immune response into a guided, gamified journey. Instead of watching from a distance, users move through the story themselves – helping a B cell respond to an intruder, assemble its clones, attack the antigen, and remember the enemy for next time.

The project brings the immune system into view through clear educational storytelling, bold visual interpretation, and a growing interactive layer – showing how Sensu can help audiences understand complex science in a deeper and more memorable way.
